The Feria de las Flores is Medellin’s biggest annual celebration, a ten-day festival that honours the flower growers of the mountain villages around the city. Its centrepiece, the Desfile de Silleteros, sees farmers carry huge floral arrangements (silletas) on their backs through the streets. The 2026 edition was the 69th, held 31 July to 9 August, with the parade closing the fair on 9 August (Publimetro).
2027 dates: what we know and what we do not
The Medellin city government has not announced 2027 dates. The pattern of recent years is a fair of about ten days starting at the end of July or on 1 August, finishing with the parade on the Sunday in the second week of August. On that pattern we expect roughly 30 July to 8 August 2027, with the parade on Sunday 8 August. Treat these as provisional. The city usually confirms dates a few weeks beforehand, so check the Medellin city government site before you buy flights. We will update this page when the official calendar appears.
What to see
The Desfile de Silleteros is the main event: hundreds of silleteros from Santa Elena and the Oriente Antioqueno walk the route, many of them families who have done so for generations. Silletas can weigh over 70 kilograms and take weeks to assemble. Around it, the fair adds a classic-car parade, the Caballos de Paso horse parade, flower markets in the centre and Laureles, and free concerts on outdoor stages.
For something quieter, visit the village of Santa Elena, in the hills east of Medellin, where many silleteros live and where flower farms open to visitors in fair week.
Watching the parade
The route runs along Avenida El Poblado, and the nearest Metro stop is El Poblado on Line A. The parade usually starts in the morning and runs for four to five hours. Grandstand seats have typically cost approximately COP 80,000 to COP 250,000 as of 2026, while free pavement space fills from early morning. Bring sun protection and a rain layer: August afternoons can bring showers, although daytime temperatures of 22 to 28 degrees Celsius are comfortable.
Where to stay and how to plan
August is high season for domestic tourism, so hotel prices rise and the best-located rooms go first. El Poblado puts you closest to the parade; Laureles is calmer and good for food. Our where to stay in Medellin guide compares the areas, and you can search Medellin hotels for your dates.
