February is quietly one of the most rewarding months to visit Medellín. The dry season is holding firm, the Christmas and New Year rush has cleared, and the city is running at a comfortable pace. Clear mornings make the cable car and paragliding worthwhile rather than cloud-shrouded, the botanical garden is in good shape, and Guatapé is uncrowded midweek. Hotel rates across El Poblado and Laureles are notably lower than the December peak.
February Weather in Medellín: Clear Skies at 1,495m
Medellín’s altitude keeps temperatures consistent year-round. February falls in the dry season, bringing the clearest and least rainy conditions of the year alongside January.
| Metric | February in Medellín |
|---|---|
| Average high | 26°C |
| Average low | 16°C |
| Average temperature | 22°C |
| Rain days | ~4-5 |
| Humidity | Low to moderate |
The low rain-day count means reliable conditions for outdoor activities. Even on rain days, showers are typically brief afternoon events rather than all-day downpours. A light layer works for evenings in El Poblado; the day temperature is comfortable in shorts and a t-shirt.
Paragliding from San Félix: Best Month of the Year
The San Félix launch site, about 45 minutes from Medellín by road (through Bello), is the primary paragliding location for the city. February’s dry, thermally stable conditions produce some of the most consistent flying of the year. Tandem flights over the Aburrá Valley last approximately 15 to 20 minutes and require no prior experience.
Clear February skies mean the views extend well beyond the immediate valley. On a good morning, you can see across to the surrounding ridgelines and farm-covered hillsides of Antioquia.
Medellín: Paragliding Over the Colombian Andes departs with licensed operators and includes transport from Medellín. From approximately USD 70 per person as of 2026. The GoPro video option records the flight for those who want the footage.
Booking: Weekend slots fill up in February. Book at least 48 hours ahead for Saturday and Sunday departures. Weekday morning slots are usually available with shorter notice.
Guatapé in February: Peak Clarity for El Peñol
February’s clear skies make Guatapé and El Peñol one of the best day trips of the year. The 740-step climb to the top of El Peñol delivers its most dramatic views when the sky is cloudless, which February reliably provides. The reservoir below takes on a deep blue-green colour in dry season, distinctly different from the greyer tones that appear during rainy months.
The town of Guatapé is easier to navigate in February than in the December-January peak: fewer tour buses, shorter queues at the stairway entrance to El Peñol, and faster table turnover at the lakeside restaurants.
From Medellín: Guatapé Day Trip with El Peñol Rock and Lunch is the standard well-reviewed option. The Guatapé Tour with Lunch Cruise adds a boat tour of the reservoir for those with more time.
Entry to El Peñol: approximately COP 22,000 as of 2026. Shared transport from Medellín via tour operators or public buses from Terminal del Norte takes around 90 minutes.
Comuna 13 in February: Dry Trails and Clear Views
The walk through Comuna 13’s outdoor escalators and graffiti-covered alleys is most enjoyable in dry conditions. February’s clear weather keeps the painted walls at their brightest and the hillside paths cleaner than in the wetter months. The neighbourhood is accessible year-round but February visits avoid the muddy steps that can occur after heavy rain.
The drone of valley views from the higher sections of the neighbourhood is noticeably sharper in February’s clear air. Mornings are quieter than weekend afternoons; the escalators begin operating at 7am.
Medellín: Comuna 13 Graffiti Tour, Cable Car and Street Food provides the full context behind the murals and the neighbourhood’s transformation. The Medellín City Tour and Comuna 13 Experience adds several city landmarks to the commune visit.
Metro Cable Car in February: Clear Valley Views
The Metrocable lines connecting Santo Domingo Savio and San Javier to the main metro are both functional transport and a striking way to see Medellín’s hillside comunas. February’s dry conditions produce the clearest valley views of the year from the cable car gondolas.
The Línea L cable car (accessed from Acevedo station) extends from the urban cable network up to Parque Arví, a forested natural park above the city. The full journey from the metro to Parque Arví takes approximately 35 minutes. Entry to the park: COP 5,000 to COP 7,000 as of 2026 (cable car fare is separate: approximately COP 5,200 per trip). February’s clear weather makes the Parque Arví visit significantly better than in the wetter months when the park entrance is frequently misty.
El Poblado and Laureles in February: Dining and Evenings
El Poblado is Medellín’s primary restaurant and nightlife district. In February, the main streets around Parque Lleras and Calle 10 are lively but not overwhelmed. Restaurants are easier to enter without prior booking than in December.
El Cielo (Calle 9) is one of Medellín’s most ambitious restaurants, with a tasting menu focused on Colombian ingredients and modern techniques. Dinner from approximately COP 250,000 per person. Book ahead regardless of month.
Pergamino Café (Carrera 37) is the reference coffee shop in El Poblado, serving specialty Colombian roasts in a well-designed space. A standard espresso drink costs approximately COP 10,000 to COP 14,000.
Laureles offers a good alternative base. The neighbourhood around Avenida El Poblado and Parque Laureles has a strong local restaurant scene with lower prices than El Poblado and easy metro access from the Estadio station.

February is an excellent month for day trips from Medellín given the clear conditions. Beyond Guatapé (covered above):
Santa Fe de Antioquia: The well-preserved colonial town 90km from Medellín (approximately 1 hour 45 minutes by road). February is quieter than December and Easter. The Iglesia Santa Bárbara and the bridge over the Cauca River are the primary draws. Buses from Terminal del Norte run from early morning (approximately COP 20,000 return).
Jardín: A beautifully maintained coffee-town about three hours from Medellín by road. February’s dry conditions make the surrounding hillside walks and the cable car up to Cristo Rey accessible and photogenic. Boutique guesthouses fill up on weekends; midweek is more relaxed. See our Jardín city guide for details.
