The local Facebook groups and word of mouth are sometimes better for finding these than booking platforms, which are not universally used by small Barichara guesthouses.
What to Know Before You Book
Location inside the historic centre matters. The protected zone is compact — roughly a 10-block grid — and everything worth seeing is within it. Properties on streets like Carrera 7, Carrera 8, and the streets immediately around the Parque Principal are the most convenient. Properties advertised as being “in Barichara” but located outside this grid will require a walk on uneven terrain.
Weekend price spikes are significant. Peak weekend rates at colonial boutiques can be 40 to 60% above midweek rates. If your travel dates are flexible, Monday through Thursday stays offer the same town with substantially lower accommodation costs and thinner crowds.
Noise from the plaza. The Parque Principal has music and activity on weekend evenings, which carries into nearby properties. Light sleepers should prioritise properties one or two blocks off the plaza or confirm whether rooms face inward to a courtyard.
Parking. Barichara’s historic streets are not designed for cars. Properties have limited or no parking. If you are driving from Bucaramanga or San Gil, confirm the parking situation with your property before arrival.
