Feria de Cali runs every year from December 25 to January 2 - eight nights of salsa concerts, street parties, and the Salsódromo, the world’s largest salsa parade. Cali’s accommodation market during the Feria operates on a simple principle: quality hotels near the action fill in September and October, and everything after that is a compromise. The city has excellent value accommodation outside the festival window, but during the Feria even mid-range options are priced at or above Cartagena rates.
This guide covers the best neighbourhoods, specific hotel options, and the booking timeline that actually works.
Booking timeline and what to budget
The Feria de Cali runs December 25–January 2 every year - dates do not shift, which means the demand pattern is completely predictable. The absence of scheduling uncertainty makes early booking even more logical than for variable-date festivals like Barranquilla Carnival.
Realistic booking timeline:
- September: Best availability at near-standard rates
- October: Good availability, 20–40% above standard
- November: Limited availability, 50–80% above standard
- December: Very limited at double or triple standard rates
Cali mid-range hotels off-season typically run COP 160,000–280,000 per night. During Feria expect COP 320,000–560,000 for the same property. Budget options run approximately COP 80,000–140,000 off-season and COP 150,000–240,000 during Feria. Neither category should be left to the last minute.
Granada: closest to the Salsódromo
Granada is the neighbourhood with the most direct access to the Salsódromo parade route on Avenida 6N. It is also one of the most compact and walkable areas of Cali, with a concentrated strip of restaurants and late-night bars along the main avenidas that make it easy to move between dinner, the parade, and a salsoteca all on foot.
Hotel Dann Carlton Cali is the most established full-service hotel in Granada - a four-star property with a pool, gym, multiple restaurants, and reliable rooms. Rates approximately COP 320,000–480,000 per night off-season. The Feria rate spikes significantly but the location is difficult to beat if proximity to the Salsódromo is your priority. Book September at the latest.
Hotel Spiwak Chipichape is a well-maintained mid-range hotel in the northern part of Cali near the commercial centre. Rates approximately COP 240,000–380,000 per night. Slightly further from the Salsódromo than Granada hotels but part of a well-regarded Colombian chain known for consistent quality.
Ayenda Terraza Real is a reliable budget-to-mid option in Granada with clean rooms, basic amenities, and a location within walking distance of the main festival areas. Rates approximately COP 140,000–220,000 per night off-season. One of the better-value options for visitors whose budget doesn’t stretch to the larger hotels.
El Peñón: slightly quieter, excellent restaurants
El Peñón is a residential neighbourhood just south of Granada - slightly quieter, with some of Cali’s best restaurants along its main streets and a handful of good mid-range hotels. The Salsódromo is a five to ten minute taxi ride rather than walking distance, but the trade-off is a more relaxed atmosphere and better dining options.
Hotel Movich Casa del Alferez is a colonial-era boutique hotel in El Peñón - one of the most atmospheric options in Cali. A restored 19th-century house with a courtyard, pool, and individually designed rooms. Rates approximately COP 350,000–520,000 per night. Books quickly for December - a genuinely special option if you want character over chain-hotel reliability.
Hotel Posada San Antonio is a clean mid-range property in El Peñón with a pool and straightforward comfortable rooms. Rates approximately COP 200,000–320,000 per night. Good value for the Feria window if booked in September.
San Antonio: historic and atmospheric
San Antonio is a hillside barrio about 15 minutes from the Salsódromo - the most characterful neighbourhood in Cali, with colonial-era architecture, independent art galleries, and good street food. Accommodation options are more limited than in Granada and El Peñón, which makes booking even earlier essential.
Hostal Iguana is a well-reviewed guesthouse in San Antonio with private rooms and dorms, a social atmosphere, and helpful staff who can advise on Feria logistics. Private rooms approximately COP 180,000–260,000 per night. Dorms from COP 65,000. One of the best-value San Antonio options - books out by October without exception.
Getting the most out of Feria de Cali
Book the Salsódromo tribuna seats at the same time as your hotel. They go on sale in October through TuBoleta.com and the better-positioned grandstands sell within days. The seated experience - elevated views of the dancers and their costumes - is dramatically better than roadside standing. If you miss the tribuna release, some tour operators bundle Salsódromo access with an evening salsa club tour; check availability through GetYourGuide.
The best salsoteca nights are not during the parade. The Juanchito salsa district (15 minutes by taxi from Granada) reaches its peak intensity during the Feria but operates every evening of the year. Many long-term visitors rate the club evenings on December 27 and 28 - after the main Salsódromo spectacle and before New Year crowds arrive - as the best of the entire festival.
Airport to hotel: Alfonso Bonilla Aragón International Airport (CLO) is 16km northeast of the city centre. Taxi to Granada or El Peñón runs approximately COP 50,000–70,000 (30–40 minutes, traffic-dependent). Book an airport taxi through the official counter at arrivals rather than accepting offers outside the terminal.
