Cali has no cold season. At roughly 1,000 metres above sea level it sits around 24 to 25 degrees Celsius all year, so the real question is rain, festivals and crowds. The right month depends on whether you want the biggest party, the best weather or the cheapest room. This guide pairs with our national best time to visit Colombia page.
Seasons at a glance
| Period | Weather | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| December to February | Driest, warm | Peak season, Feria, higher prices |
| March to May | Wetter | Short heavy showers, quieter |
| June to August | Relatively dry | Good for day trips and walking |
| September | Mixed | Salsa congress and festival buzz |
| October to November | Wettest | Cheaper rooms, shorter day trips |
These are patterns, not guarantees. Colombian weather has shifted with El NiΓ±o and La NiΓ±a years, so check the national forecast from IDEAM before you commit to outdoor plans.
December and January: Feria de Cali
The Feria de Cali is the cityβs biggest celebration, with concerts and street parades over roughly 25 to 30 December. It is the best time to see Cali at full volume and the hardest to book. Read our Feria de Cali guide for events, and use our Feria de Cali hotels page to plan stays. Rooms in San Antonio and Granada sell out early, so reserve six to eight weeks ahead. Early January is calmer and still dry, with lower prices.
February to May
February is still dry and pleasant. From March the rains return, usually as an afternoon downpour. April and May are among the wetter months, which makes Pance, the Farallones and Calima less reliable, but the city itself works fine. Rooms are noticeably easier to find, and you can often negotiate rates at smaller hotels.
June to August
This is our favourite window for first-time visitors. The weather is more settled, day trips such as Buga and Lago Calima run smoothly, and August brings the Petronio Γlvarez Festival, a large celebration of Afro-Pacific music and food held in Cali. Check the official dates each year because they are set annually, and expect crowds and higher prices in the city that week.
September: the salsa congress
The salsa festival and congress season in September draws dancers from abroad. If salsa is your reason for coming, this is when the city is busiest with workshops and shows. See our Cali salsa world congress guide for how it works. September rain is possible, but a dance-focused trip does not need sunshine.
October and November
The wettest weeks of the year. You trade weather for price, since hotels cut rates and the main sights are quiet. It is a decent period for food, nightlife and a salsa class, less so for outdoor trips. Pack a light rain jacket and plan outdoor activities for the morning.
What to pack
Light cotton, a rain layer for the wet months, comfortable closed shoes for dancing and one warmer layer for air-conditioned venues. Sun protection matters even on cloudy days.
